Periodic table of the elements

PSE

The periodic table for everyone — from the curious child to the professional.

A periodic table that grows with you: set the level of detail freely, rotate atoms in true 3D, learn with cards and quizzes, and experiment in the virtual lab.

Who is PSE for?

One app, four depths — every audience sees exactly what it needs.

  • Curious child

Colourful elements to explore, simple language, little games. Wonder instead of cramming.

  • School student

Exactly the facts for class — with flashcards and quizzes for the next test.

  • University student

Properties, trends and isotopes in detail, plus 3D models for understanding instead of memorising.

  • Pro & teacher

Exact values with sources and units, the long-form table, and depth down to the last decimal.

Freely adjustable level of detail

From a simple overview to isotopes and exact atomic weights — you decide how deep it goes.

  • Simple Name, symbol, colour and a picture. Perfect for first contact.
  • Standard Atomic number, atomic weight, group & period, state of matter and typical properties.
  • Pro Isotopes, exact atomic weights, all physical-chemical properties — with source and unit.

The depth applies globally or per element — switchable any time, without leaving the app.

Features in detail

Everything a modern periodic table should do — and then some.

  • Multiple table views

Compact standard view and the correct long form with lanthanides and actinides in place — one tap away.

  • True 3D

Rotatable atom and shell models in real 3D. Understand electron shells by grabbing and turning them.

  • Learning & gamification

Flashcards, quizzes and mini-games with streaks and points. Knowledge grows, the fun stays.

  • Virtual lab

Experiments and virtual instruments — from a Geiger counter to historic apparatus, with the science history behind them.

  • Media for every element

Images, audio and video bring the elements to life — see, hear, understand.

Atom models & orbitals in true 3D

The heart of PSE: go from the plain sphere to the quantum-mechanical electron cloud — freely switchable, rotatable, and computed from the real electron configuration.

Cloud

What you can control

  • Cloud ↔ Solid Point cloud for honesty, solids for clarity.
  • Nodes ↔ Smooth Show or hide the radial nodes.
  • Colour coding Hue = orbital type s·p·d·f, brightness = shell n, with legend.
  • Single ↔ Overlaid Toggle each orbital with a chip.
  • Density slider Set the point count and quality of the cloud freely.
  • 2D ↔ 3D Flat preview or full, rotatable 3D with zoom.
  • Data-driven From the real configuration — H shows just 1s, iron its 3d/4s.
  • Axes & nucleus Co-rotating coordinate cross, exact nucleus at low Z.

From sphere to orbital — seven atom models

Page through the history of the atom. Every model rotates in 3D and is tied to your chosen element — from a historically honest nucleus to full quantum mechanics.

More than a periodic table

PSE has grown well beyond the classic table: a heatmap view, a virtual lab with over 200 experiments, 3D molecules, the full chart of nuclides, a mixing table and three learning modes. Here are the key tools in detail.

PSE heatmap: elements shaded by a numeric value

View

Heatmap — colour the table by the numbers

Map a numeric property onto the whole periodic table: every tile is shaded along a cool-to-warm gradient, making periodic trends obvious at a glance. For wide value ranges the scale switches to logarithmic automatically, and a legend shows the unit plus the minimum and maximum.

  • ~16 properties
  • density · electronegativity · melting point · ionisation energy
  • log scale & legend
  • standard & long form
Virtual lab showing an interactive experiment

Lab

Virtual lab — over 200 experiments

More than 200 interactive experiments, evenly spread across four levels (child, school, university, pro). From flame colours and titration curves through reaction kinetics, circuits (electromagnet, RC, LC resonance), fields and waves to phase diagrams, MO and orbital diagrams, crystal-field splitting, the Bloch sphere and electron diffraction. Plus virtual instruments — from a Geiger counter to historic apparatus, with the science history behind them.

  • 200+ experiments
  • 4 levels · ~50 each
  • virtual instruments
  • science history
Molecule gallery with a 3D ball-and-stick model

3D

Molecule gallery — structures in 3D

Over 100 curated molecules, sorted by category — elements & gases, oxides & water, acids, bases & salts, organic chemistry and special structures. Search by name or formula, switch between tile and list view, and open any molecule as a rotatable ball-and-stick model in true 3D.

  • 100+ molecules
  • 6 categories
  • search by name/formula
  • rotatable 3D
Chart of nuclides in an N/Z grid with the valley of stability

Nuclear

Chart of nuclides — every nucleus at a glance

The complete chart of nuclides: around 5,400 nuclei including isomers in a zoomable, pannable N/Z grid. Three colour modes — stability, decay mode and half-life — with magic numbers, the valley of stability and a legend. Tap a nucleus for its decays, half-life and abundance, and jump from any element straight to its row.

  • ~5,400 nuclides
  • stability · decay mode · half-life
  • zoom & pan
  • jump from the element
Mixing table with two chosen substances and a reaction

Lab

Mixing table — combine substances

Pick two substances and mix them: for a known reaction an effect animation plays, with the reaction equation and an explanation — otherwise “no reaction”. Every first discovery earns lab XP, and the reactions you find are tracked as a collection.

  • mix two substances
  • equation & explanation
  • effect animation
  • discovery collection + XP
Learn hub with flashcards, quiz and memory

Learn

Learning — cards, memory & quiz

Three learning modes with streaks and points: flashcards with spaced repetition (SM-2) schedule reviews automatically, the quiz tests symbol ↔ name, and memory has you uncover symbol-name pairs. Every round feeds your level, XP and daily streak — with stats and a leaderboard.

  • flashcards (SM-2)
  • quiz: symbol ↔ name
  • memory pairs
  • streak · XP · leaderboard
